Alternative Energy Fair

In May, we took a display on ethanol and bio diesel to the Bloom Trail High school in Sauk Village. Lake County Farm Bureau member, Chris Clausing, a chemistry teacher at Bloom, invited us to set up a display. We shared the farmers side of why alternative energy is important to our country and to our farms. Chris had received a grant from BP to sponsor this fair. Students from Bloom Township High school also participated. The highlight of the day was the "race" that they had outside on the track. Students had designed go carts to run on various types of fuel and they had a race to see which car would run the longest! A solar power car from Northwestern University was also on display. His class also made their own ethanol and visited the IBEC ethanol plant in Rennselaer. A new generation....learning the importance of alternative energy!
